It starts as a Halloween dare:
Break into the old lady’s house behind the abandoned bookshop.
Everyone’s heard the rumours…
She murdered her whole family and hid their bodies under the floorboards.
She never leaves the house — except to enter Twister championships!?
Some say she’s over a hundred years old.
Others say she’s immortal — and knows everything.
Just stories… right?
You keep telling yourself that —
until the metal gate slams shut behind you,
and you realise you’re inside an elaborate trap.
What started as a thrill becomes a game of survival.
And while Granny may not see well,
she hears everything —
and moves like lightning ⚡
Run. Hide. Plot your escape.
Just don’t let her catch you.
Because once Granny’s got you in her arms…
she’ll never let you go.
Granny is not based upon or affiliated in any way with the video game Granny.
YOUR MISSION
Most people install home security to keep people out.
Granny installed hers to keep them in… forever.
She’s always searching for new blood to rebuild the perfect family she never had. Her home is now a booby-trapped fortress — a twisted maze of puzzles, surveillance, and human traps. Only the smartest and most coordinated can break out.
This is not a traditional escape room. There is no fixed path. No linear sequence of puzzles.
To disarm the system, you’ll need to work as a team, split across the house, and act simultaneously in different rooms — all while avoiding Granny herself, who’s hunting you down and testing whether you’re worthy to join her family.
Think of it as a real-time survival game, like stepping inside a multiplayer horror video game.
Granny is a cryptic, layered experience.
If a little confusion makes you uncomfortable — or if you just want to be told what to do — this is not the game for you.
But if you thrive under pressure, love being thrown in the deep end, and understand that discovery feels best when it’s earned, then welcome home.
Granny’s been waiting a very long time to meet you…

It is essential that you follow the signage outside the venue.

F.A.Q.s
This event is designed to create fear, paranoia and anxiety in its participants and has been given a fear factor of 4/5. If you don’t enjoy feeling afraid, then this probably is not the experience for you.
ScreamWorks’ productions are unique, so don’t expect Granny to be like a traditional escape room or anything you have done before. You need to enter with an open mind leave all expectations at the door. If you are the kind of escape room player who likes to ask for clues, then this is not a good choice for you. Remember, its a non-linear open-world adventure so Granny is not designed to be solved on a room-by-room basis; some of the puzzles require you to move around the house or to be in different rooms at the same time to solve them.
Granny is like being inside a multi-player horror suvival game. You will have 60 minutes to work together as a team to plan and execute your escape, while trying to avoid being caught by Granny.
Well, that would be telling! But don’t worry, all Granny wants to do is love you.
You will not be touched by Granny (or anyone) and you must not touch Granny.
The age restriction is 13+, but under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
Presently, all bookings for Granny are private bookings (i.e. you will not be joined by other members of the public) and our minimum booking quantity is four persons (although we do have a four-player and five-player surcharge for this event, to make it economically viable to permit smaller groups to attend). From time to time we will release Public timeslots where solo travellers or individuals can join together to form a group. Email us at info@screamworks.co.uk if this is of interest to you.
Up to 10 minutes check-in time and 60 minutes of game time.
We have given this a difficulty rating of 4/5. The puzzles unfold in an open-world environment without traditional clues, which can feel unfamiliar to those used to a more structured escape room. But don’t worry — everything is designed to make sense, with intuitive signposting and logical progression. Most groups quickly find their rhythm and discover exactly what they need to do. Presently, as at 24/11/2025, the success rate is approximately 20%. But so long as you are not a sore loser, you will have fun whatever the outcome of your experience.
Yes. Granny might be ancient, but she ain’t dead yet.
Yes. Your belongings will be stored in the bookshop.
Yes — but with a few important conditions:
If you choose to bring your phone (or any other personal items) into the house and lose it during the game, we can allow only five minutes for retrieval before the next group must begin. After that, you’ll need to schedule a separate appointment to return and collect it.
The house is large, dimly lit, and filled with places where items can be easily misplaced. For that reason, we strongly recommend the following:
-
Keep your phone on loud (not silent or vibrate)
-
Enable voice activation (e.g., “Hey Siri” / “OK Google”) so we can help locate it quickly if needed
We’ve never had a guest permanently lose an item at Granny, and we’d like to keep it that way. But please remember: if you bring valuables into the experience, you do so at your own risk — and we cannot delay other guests if you’re unable to keep track of them.
There is one toilet available during the experience — but it’s Granny’s bathroom, and you’ll need to find it first. Once the game begins, you can use it at any time… if you’re brave enough to enter. We strongly recommend using the bathroom before you arrive. Many guests stop at Mother Kelly’s nearby for a pre-show drink — they are happy for you to use their facilities and if you show them your Granny ticket, you’ll receive 10% off your bill. Please don’t arrive and try to force our actors to break character by demanding to use the toilet.
The minimum cost to reserve a timeslot is 6 tickets. If you’re planning to visit Granny with a group larger than 6 and want others to pay separately, just purchase 6 tickets in one transaction to secure your slot. You’ll receive a confirmation email with all the instructions — including a booking link and password — so your friends can add themselves to your timeslot later.
The experience takes place on a single level and does not involve crawling. However, due to the layout of the building, it is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
Some areas have uneven surfaces and low or intermittent lighting, so there is a degree of physicality involved that may make the event unsuitable for those with limited mobility or balance concerns.
If you have accessibility needs, we strongly recommend getting in touch with us before booking, so we can discuss your specific requirements and advise accordingly.
If you’re registered as needing a carer (e.g. via DLA or equivalent), we’re happy to provide a free carer ticket. Just email us at info@screamworks.co.uk
The experience may involve moments of physical intensity, startle effects, and an unpredictable environment — all of which make it unsafe during pregnancy.
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes with a good grip – trainers are perfect. Please avoid high heel shoes or any shoes which have a smooth leather bottom, like formal wear.

Not for Granny, yet. She is still deciding how long she will be visiting for. But you can absolutely purchase gift vouchers for any of our other year-round experiences.
Absolutely. Granny is able to accommodate up to 18 simultaneous players, which makes this an ideal choice for corporate team-building events.
After attending the event, you can log in using the email address you used at check-in and access your footage via the Attendee Dashboard. Please note: this system is currently in beta and is provided as a gesture of goodwill — we cannot guarantee availability, functionality, or technical support. Access is only granted if all members of your group consented to video sharing during check-in. Unfortunately, we cannot grant access after the event if: (i) you failed to check in, or (ii) anyone in your group opted out. Clear check-in instructions are displayed outside the venue, and the system has been tested with thousands of guests. Make sure you have mobile data as you will need the internet to check-in. You can always check-in on one of your friend’s phones if you have any issues.
